The Department for Education have reinforced the need ‘to create a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.’
We actively promote ‘fundamental British values’ throughout the curriculum in addition to a weekly dedicated taught tutor time series of planned activities focused on Citizenship and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We also use a weekly tutor time slot to reflect on newsround stories against a background of British values.
We recognise that promoting equality and diversity in education is essential for both teachers and students. Our aim is to create a classroom and College environment where all students can thrive together and understand that individual characteristics make people unique and not ‘different’ in a negative way.
